Week 6 Post 1

Animal Overpopulation

Animal overpopulation is a growing problem in Wake county and in America. Animal overpopulation is when there an overcrowding of animals and not enough resources to care for this overcrowding. To me animal overpopulation is happening because people are not educated enough on getting there animals spayed and neutered. Many people think that getting their animals fixed is way to expensive and not even worth it; but there are lost cost spay and neuter clinics that offer lost prices for getting your animals fixed. Here is a link to different clinics that offer low cost spay and neutering for animals http://www.ncraoa.com/clinics.html . Another reason I think there is and overpopulation of animals is because people are not responsible about what it truly means to care for an animal. People just love the idea of having a pet but once they get one they finally understand how hard and what it means to take care of a animal which would be have the fiances to support an animal, get it spayed/neutered so there is no overpopulation of animals, and to have the time to care and love the animal. People just need to think before they get an animal and how important it is to spay and neuter their animals. I don't think society really understands how bad overpopulation has gotten and how they are causing it because they do not spay/neuter their animals. Society just thinks that all shelter can actually take care of all these animals when really they cannot and society gets upset when they hear how shelters euthanize animals; but they don't take the time to understand why shelter have to do this and that they try everything they can do to not euthanize the animals. The shelter has to euthanize animals when they are sick or just have no chance to a happy life, they don't just put them to sleep just because. Society needs to start taking responsibility for the problem they have help cause and need to get their animals spayed/neutered.

  1. I feel like you took the words right out of my mouth! I completely agree with you about animal overpopulation, society is not educated which leads to misunderstanding. The best way to help is educate and raise awareness! :) Great photos, I especially enjoy the one of the second cat!

  2. I agree and believe that society does not understand the extremity of animal overpopulation and it's link to spaying and neutering. Hopefully, with our knowledge of it, we can educate others about it.

  3. There are a lot of myths regarding animal shelters and animal overpopulation. I appreciate your work in trying to set the record straight about what goes on and why!
